FAQ
Grants & Financial Support
Am I eligible for the Department Of Social Protection Treatment Benefit Scheme Grant?
You may be eligible for the Treatment Benefit Scheme if you have made the required number of PRSI (Pay Related Social Insurance) contributions, either as an employee or self-employed person. The scheme is also available to qualified dependents and pensioners who meet the eligibility criteria.
This grant can help cover part of the cost of wigs, hairpieces, or other hair loss solutions prescribed due to medical conditions. To confirm your eligibility and apply, get in touch and we’ll guide you through the process to make it as seamless as possible.
How does the grant work?
If you wish to apply, please get in touch. You will be emailed / posted or can collect two forms. Once is your consent for me to check your eligibility via the DSP online portal with your PPSN. The second is a medical form to be filled out by your doctor stating that you have medical hair loss. This will be uploaded to the portal with your claim.
Once approved, the grant is issued to your medical hair piece supplier (in this case, us), who will then deduct the total €500 off the cost of your wig.
This grant renews every calendar year, you just need to reapply via your provider. You do not have to use the same provider. If you avail of this scheme through us once, you are under no obligation to do so again. Any provider registered with the department of social protection scheme can apply on your behalf with your permission.

Lace Wigs
What is a lace wig?
A lace wig is a type of wig with a lace base that mimics a natural scalp and hairline. It allows for a more realistic appearance and versatility in styling.
What’s the difference between lace front and full lace wigs?
- Lace Front/Glueless Wig: Lace covers the front portion of the wig, allowing a natural hairline and free parting. A wefted cap makes up the back of the wig, securing the wig onto your head and allowing you to tighten, loosen etc.
- Full Lace Wig: Lace covers the entire base, offering more versatility for updos and ponytails, however adhesive must be worn to secure a full lace wig which can be time consuming and can also degrade the lace quicker. Only recommended for seasoned wig wearers!
What is the difference between a lace front cap and a glue-less beginner cap?
1. Lace Front Cap:
The lace front cap has lace material at the front of the wig, which allows for a natural-looking hairline. The rest of the wig is made from wefts sewn onto a stretchable cap. Best for those who want a more realistic, custom-fit look and are comfortable using adhesives or clips.
2. Glueless Beginner Cap:
The glueless beginner cap is designed to be easy to wear without the need for adhesives. It typically features an adjustable band or straps that ensure a secure fit, it also has a smaller amount of lace at the front, but it’s designed for easy wear with no glue or tape. Best for beginners or anyone who prefers a convenient and secure option without the hassle of adhesives.
Both wig caps will look natural and realistic.
How long do lace wigs last?
With proper care, lace wigs can last anywhere from 8 months to 2 years, depending on the selected range, how well is is cared for and how often it’s worn. If possible, it is recommended to switch between to wigs for daily wear.
How do I care for my lace wig?
- Use gentle, sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners.
- Avoid excessive heat styling.
- Store it on a wig stand to maintain its shape.
- Clean the lace regularly with alcohol-free cleansers.
Can I wear my lace wig every day?
Yes! Lace wigs are designed for everyday wear, but it’s essential to clean and care for both your wig and scalp regularly to ensure comfort and hygiene.
How do I choose the right wig for me?
Consider factors like hair texture, length, color, and cap construction. At Haló, we provide personalised consultations to help you find the perfect match.
Will a lace wig look natural?
Absolutely! When applied and styled correctly, lace wigs are nearly indistinguishable from natural hair. They’re designed to blend seamlessly with your scalp and hairline.
How do I secure my lace wig?
You can use adhesive tapes, wig glue, or adjustable straps, depending on your comfort level and the wig’s design. We can guide you on the best method during your consultation.
Can I swim or exercise in a lace wig?
Yes, but it’s best to use a water-resistant adhesive or wear a wig grip for extra security. Afterward, clean your wig to remove chlorine or sweat. It is important to note that excessive matting/tangling of the wig may cause damage. Chlorine may also discolour dyed wigs.

Hair Loss
What causes hair loss?
Hair loss can be caused by various factors, including genetics, autoimmune conditions (like alopecia areata), hormonal changes (such as postpartum or menopause), stress, nutritional deficiencies, or medical treatments like chemotherapy.
Can hair loss be reversed?
It depends on the cause. Some types of hair loss, like telogen effluvium (stress-related shedding), can be reversed with time and proper care. However, conditions like alopecia universalis may require long-term management.
What are the best treatments for hair loss?
Treatments vary depending on the cause. Options include topical solutions, oral medications, steroid injections, lifestyle changes, and in some cases, treatments such as PRP (platelet-rich plasma) therapy, polynucleotides or scalp microneedling. We offer some of these treatments in clinic at The Aesthetic Lounge & we can personalise treatments to suit your needs. Always consult your GP and Dermatologist before starting any treatment.
How do I know which type of hair loss I have?
A consultation with a hair loss specialist or dermatologist can help identify the type of hair loss.
Will wearing wigs make my hair loss worse?
No, wearing wigs will not cause or worsen hair loss. However, it’s essential to choose wigs that are gentle on your scalp and ensure proper care to avoid irritation.
